Hi! I am Cherrelle Barton, Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Owner of I.A.M. Counseling Services, PLLC. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and minor in Nutrition from the University of Houston and a Master of Social Work degree with a pre-professional certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Georgia. I have over nine year’s experience in the field.

My experience includes working with diverse populations of all ages in medical and psychiatric hospitals, outpatient clinics and child welfare settings. I have familiarity and experience in treating those with severe mental health disturbances, including but not limited to depression, anxiety, chemical dependency, domestic violence issues, chronic illness, aging issues, grief and loss. I have strong clinical skill de-escalating mental health patients in crisis through brief supportive counseling and by assessing for suicidality and triaging to the appropriate levels of care. I also have a passion for working with the elderly, having worked for managed care organizations addressing aging issues.

My therapeutic preferences include strengths-based, patient-focused methodologies incorporating EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness, and motivational interviewing techniques. I prefer a holistic approach in treating clients, which includes assessing the person in the environment, family system as well as in the community while factoring in possible cognitive and biological factors. I advocate for optimal care, connecting clients to community systems for integrated care when necessary.

As a therapist, I enjoy cultivating confidence, developing life and coping skills, and breaking large issues down into smaller achievable tasks. I look forward to working with you and helping you become your best you.
